About Karen
Karen Kelly, owner and event coordinator, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in special events coordination (University of North Carolina at Wilmington, 1999). While in college, she had the opportunity to work with renowned New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she helped coordinate events such as the Cancer Survivors Day and the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit Babies Day Reunion. Also while in Wilmington, Karen assisted in the coordination of events in conjunction with the North Carolina Azalea Festival, a celebration of Wilmington's artwork, gardens, history and culture. The Azalea festival consists of five days of entertainment that includes: a parade, street fair, circus, concerts, pageantry, and all that is Southern.
As head of membership and advertising sales for the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce, Karen assisted with the planning for the monthly Business After Hours socials and the Annual Mariners Membership Drive. This enabled her to make contacts, which are now an integral part of her work with Coastal Events.
Although she started in advertising and membership sales with the Outer Banks Wedding Association, Karen now volunteers her time to help in the planning and execution of the Annual Outer Banks Wedding Weekend and Wedding Expo. This has given her the opportunity to build relationships with many of the vendors who also provide services for those planning a destination wedding on the Outer Banks.
Karen's community involvement and background in hospitality, make it a pleasure to serve visitors and locals alike.
